DOUBLE VISION is a series of ten paintings (four of which are shown here) produced by Dual Application Agency (DAA). Each image in the series is made by the artists working together simultaneously on a single surface. Standing on either side of a large squeegee they pull a thin layer of acrylic glaze on to a tile board panel. The process is one of repeated applications and alterations. It also entails the need to make instant decisions, since every non-stop "run" of the squeegee is unlike any other and changes everything - either partially or completely obliterating the preceding run. With each pull of the squeegee, the question arises: Is it yes or no? The process stops only when the two artists agree that the answer to the question is yes. Once complete the individual panels are paired up and positioned vertically to make the final work. The imagery of DOUBLE VISION strongly suggests some generalized, fleeting place while equally alluding to the process of photography and digital media. Each work in this series consists of two panels with an overall dimension of 48" x 63" |
